Competition Results

April Rover 2008

A bitterly cold weekend with quite a strong North Westerly still blowing put a bit of a damper on our results but eight members still braved the elements and first place went to Derek Ferrett with a Thornback Ray of 9lb 13 1/2oz (82.031%) and although Kevin also caught a slightly smaller Ray this was not weighed. With this the only fish weighed in second place is rolled over.

March Boat Trip

Unfortunately the trip was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, ie. force 8 North Westerly.

March Rover 2008

A real bummer of a weekend with high winds and high tides making fishing difficult around the coast, although a few anglers braved the elements to bring fish to the scales. First to Adrian Alford with a Dogfish of 2lb 2 1/4oz and second to Kevin Legge with another Dogfish of 2lb 2oz.

February Rover 2008

Another good turnout with fourteen members fishing this weekend. First went to Andy Joslin with an Eel of 21lb 5 3/4oz, second to John Avery with a Dogfish of 2lb 11 1/2oz and third to Kevin Legge with another Dog of 2lb 4oz.

January Rover 2008

A good turnout with fourteen members fishing over the weekend. Many many small Dogfish throughout the weekend and got very cold and frosty cold towards daybreak, but Kevin Legge battled through with a returned Conger of 26lb 4oz, second to Paul Widlake with a Bull Huss of 9lb 8 1/4oz and third to Andy Joslin with a Conger of 15lb 9oz.

Tom Clark Memorial 2008

Members are starting the year off with some cracking Conger coming in around the coast. A bleak windy wet weekend produced some excellent fish for a few of the twelve who fished this weekend. First place to Jason Barrow with a fantastic record beating Conger of 36lb 5oz (181.562%), beating the old CMSAC  and Bristol Channel record of 35lb 10oz by 11oz landed by Ashley Stourton in 2000. Second place to Mario Manley with a Bull Huss of 12lb 8 1/4oz (125.156%) and third place to Paul Widlake with his Conger of 21lb 13oz (109.062%). Fourth place also went to Jason Barrow with another Eel of 20lb 4oz (101.25%).

Festive Fish 2007

Our five day festive fish bonanza cumulated in a Bull Huss orgy for the top four spots. I know many couldn't fish the weekdays but were able to put in the hours over the weekend and were able to produce results. All fish were returned and we are able to report that Jason Barrow took first with his Huss of 13lb 2oz (131.25%), second and third placings to Derek Ferrett with his Huss of 12lb (120%) and 10lb 3oz (101.875%). Fourth and fifth place to Mario Manley with a Huss of 10lb 1oz (100.625%) and Andy Joslin with an Eel of 14lb 2oz.

Xmas Competition 2007

Well the start of another Club year brings an horrendous weekend of gales and high seas. A job to get out of the wind but if you did and were able to tell if you had a bite well all the best. First place to Derek Ferrett with a specimen Bull Huss of 11lb 10oz (116.250%), second to Conrad Lees with a Bass of 6lb 10 3/4oz (83.398%) and third to Kevin Legge with a Dogfish of 2lb 6 1/4oz (79.688%). Dave Brooke came a respectable forth with a Dogfish which was slightly under the 70% at 69.271%.

A cold south-easterly gathered before high water last night but Adrian was able to steal one point at the weigh in to take the lead in the competition finale to take top place with 29 points over Kevin Legge with 28 points.

November Rover 2007

A dozen members fished this wild'n'windy weekend around our coast for Graham Snow to take first place with a Dogfish of 2lb 12 1/2oz (92.708%), second place to Nigel Gullon with a Flounder of 2lb (88.889%) and Kevin Legge third with a Rockling of 1lb 8oz (85.714%). 7 percent split the top three places.

Wilson Trophy 2007

Fifteen members fished this competition and it produced fish one should really expect for this time of year. The variety of species was key with a whole range coming to the scales. First to Adrian Alford with a Small Eyed Ray of 10lb 4 1/2oz (114.236%), second Dave Brooke with a Bass of 8lb 7 1/2oz (105.859%) and third to John Avery with a Mullet of 4lb (100%). Clovelly 2007

Twelve members ventured down to Clovelly on this years Catch n Release bag weight competition. Quite busy around the beach and jetty area but members were able to get a place. A very popular fishing area this time of year on a Saturday night. The beach area didn't produce many bites or fish during the evening, the pier and area of beach the other side of the slipway was however more productive. Mario Manley did well and took first with 9lb 7oz of Codling and Dogfish, second to Kevin Legge with 5lb 10oz of Dogfish and Whiting and third to Wayne Thomas with 1lb 9oz.

September Rover 2007

Thirteen members again fished this weekend, many again chasing Mullet and Bass which are around in numbers, but never on competition days. You can still rely on a dogfish. First to John Avery with a Mullet of 4lb 1 3/4oz (102.734%) and second to Andy Joslin with his Dogfish of 2lb 12oz (91.667%). Competition payout helped by last months roll-over.

August Rover 2007

Thirteen members fished this weekend, many chasing Mullet and Bass, but only one winner Derek Ferrett with his Bass of 9lb 3oz coming to the scales. Second place will be a roll-over for the next competition.

July Rover 2007

Nine members ventured out over this wet weekend which saw some of the worst floods around the Gloucester area for many years. Our competition unfortunately clashing with a boat trip out of Minehead and the North Devon competition with the weigh in at Barnstaple. Conrad Lees came up with something special on the Sunday afternoon with a fine Thick-lipped Mullet of 4lb 2oz (103.125%) taking first place and Adrian Gove taking the next two places with Dogfish of 3lb and 2lb 12 1/4oz.

Putsborough 2007

Many thanks to those forty four anglers who made the effort to fish this joint open competition. It rained quite hard throughout the evening and up to the booking in at 10.30pm, then stopped till 3.30pm, then rained hard again for the weigh in. Many thanks to Mickey Mallows and Dave Shapland from Rod'n'Reelers for hosting the competition book in and the weigh in, a job well done. Many thanks to those who donated prizes for the winners, mainly both clubs for the cash, Brian Ford's, Harry Bird at The North Devon Angling Centre and to Jerry Tyzack at The Kingfisher.

For those interested Dave Shapland took first place and Mike Mellors took second. Hopefully next year will prove to be more successful in capture rates.

June Rover 2007

Thirteen members fished this quite weekend, record temperatures, flat seas, even the dogfish were quite. Graham Snow took first place with a Thin Lipped Mullet of 3lb 9oz and second went to Adrian Alford with a Smoothound of 7lb 141/2oz.

Selworthy Away Day 2007

With quite a strong Westerly blowing Selworthy was out of the question, so a short trip to Greenaleigh was called for. Still blowing or most of the day but between all the Dogfish came a couple of Ray. Being a catch and return this is our only bag weight competition. First to John Avery with 21lb 3oz, second Paul Widlake with 17llb and third Rob Pearson with 13lb 3 1/4oz. All anglers caught and returned fish.

Alykat, Minehead 2007

A great day was had by all members who ventured on this early start out of Minehead aboard Dave Roberts boat. A short trip to the Nash banks was rewarded with in excess of 50, yes fifty, Small-Eyed, three Thornback, a Spotted and a Blonde Ray of about 16lb. Almost all fish were returned alive.

April 2007

What a weekend. Easter traffic, smashing weather, 20 degrees C at Saunton, cold evening breeze. Several members went out from Minehead over to Wales for the Ray, a few came in but Blonde to 13lb and Small Eyed to 9lb wasn't quite good enough. First place went to Adrian Alford with a Dogfish of 2lb 7oz (81.25%), second place to Ashley Clarke with a boat caught Bull Huss of 12lb 2 1/2oz (81.042%) and third place to Kevin Legge with a Dogfish of 2lb 5 3/4oz (78.646%). All to take roll-over monies from the last competition.

March Rover 2007

What a difference to the previous competition, thirteen members fished this competition and although fish came in during the evening nothing to the scales on the night. A roll-over for the next competition .

February Rover 2007

Well what a turn out. Traditionally one of the poorer fishing months of the year and yet produced some of the better fish for a couple of competitions. What started out possibly a poor choice with ebbing tides surprised me with a very good turn out with 17 members fishing this competition which clashed with the February north devon compt. and also saw five members weigh in from the boat. First place to Wayne Thomas with a boat caught Spurdog of 11lb 15 3/4oz (119.844%), second to Ashley Clarke with another Spurdog of 11lb 11oz (116.875%) again boat caught and third place to Adrian Gove with a Dogfish of 2lb 12oz (91.667%). Also worth a mention is James Thomas with a boat caught Conger of 28lb 8oz (81.429%), another Conger returned from the shore caught by Mario Manley of 16lb 12 1/2 oz and a couple of Dogfish of 2lb 6 1/4oz and 2lb 2 1/2oz caught by Rob Pearson and Conrad Lees.

January Rover 2007

With gale force winds from the north-west and 9.5 metre tides far to early in the evening, thirteen members were out there somewhere getting out of the wind and still catching fish. Half a dozen at Lynmouth braving 30ft waves crashing over the wall and others just getting out of it. Kevin Legge, our Tope man, brings a Tope to the North Devon competition scales of 36lb 5oz (121.666%), second Adrian Alford with a Shore Rockling of 1lb 1 1/2oz (93.333%) and third Wayne Thomas with a Dogfish of 2lb 4 1/2oz (76.042%).

Kevin's tope had to be taken to the scales as we were fishing the North Devon competition at the time and all fish are to be weighed. The Shore Rockling of Adrian's was judged against 75% of the current British Record of 1lb 9oz and a few drams.

Tom Clark Memorial 2007

Eleven members fished over the weekend, first to Mario Manley with a returned Eel of 19lb 1/2oz (95.156%), second to Kevin Legge with a Dogfish of 2lb 8 1/4oz (83.854%) and third place to Rob Pearson with another Dogfish of 2lb 5oz (77.085%). Reports of several lost Eels (very big....) and also of several lost Tope runs...................(possibly even bigger........)

Festive Fish 2006

Several members fished over the four days on and off in between the gales and showers. Friday became unfishable. A lot of fish, mainly small eels, whiting and dogfish with an odd pollack were caught and returned, being a catch and release competition. At the "count up" at the Braunton Cricket Club the only fish weighed and recorded was a Conger of 15lb 1oz caught and returned by John Avery. Second place being carried over to The Tom Clark Memorial in 2007.

Xmas Competition 2006

The first of our competitions for the 2007 season. Saw 10 members brave the elements over the weekend, some with more success than others. Just getting out of the north-westerly was a bonus. This was the third competition for the monies for second place being rolled over for the last two competitions, so this addition prize money was split 60/40%. Kevin Legge got off to a flying start taking first with a Dogfish of 2lb 12 1/4oz, second went to Rob Pearson with a Dog of 2lb 9oz and third to Derek Ferrett with a Dog of 2lb 2 1/2oz.
