December 2011

Well we are off to a flying start to the season with a good selection of specimen fish being registered. It's good to see a proportion of boat caught specimens. First to Kevin Legge with a Whiting of 2lb 1 1/2oz (139.583%), second to Simon Silvester with a boat caught Spurdog of 14lb (116.667%), third place to Matt Jeffery with a Whiting of 1lb 10oz (108.333%) and forth place to Simon Silvester with another boat caught Spurdog of 12lb 8oz (104.167%).

November 2011

Our final month didn't set the world alight but still some nice specimen fish entered. First place to Kevin Legge with a Smoothound of 13lb 12oz (137.500%), second to Chris Martin with his Bull Huss of 10lb 8oz (105.000%) and third Graham Snow with a Flounder of 1lb 14 3/4oz (96.094%).

October 2011

Some really cracking specimens came in this month, however one name shone throughout the month. Jon Patten took top four places with a Sole of 3lb 6oz (168.750%),Conger of 31lb 14oz (159.375%), and two Tope of 42lb 11oz (142.292%) and 39lb 7oz (131.458%). Fifth place to Mario Manley with his Mullet of 5lb 4oz (131.250%)

September 2011

Bit of a dip in attendance this month, but certainly made up for in specimen fish. First and second to Jon Patten with his Sole of 4lb 4oz (212.500%) and Tope of 45lb 8oz (151.667%). Kevin Legge third with a Thick Lipped Mullet of 5lb 2oz (128.125%) and fourth Guy Spriggs' Tope of 37lb 11oz (125.625%).

August 2011

This month saw a tie between Graham Snow's Mullet of 4lb 6oz (109.375%) and Kevin Legge's Bass of 8lb 12oz (109.375%), running up third was Dave Brooke with a very close run Bass of 8lb 5oz (103.906%). Eleven members fished throughout the month.

July 2011

Well, well, well, its not often I mention myself in dispatches but the worthy winner of this months competition was me......with a Bass of 10lb 10oz  (132.813%), taking second place was Kevin Legge with one of many Smoothhound of 11lb 15oz (119.375%) and running a close third was Dave Brooke with his Smoothhound of 10lb 15oz (109.375%). Running up in a very close forth place was Chris Martin with his Smoothhound of 10lb 14 1/2oz (109.062%)

Tom Clarke Memorial Match

Fourteen anglers on four boats fished this postponed match July 31st from Lynmouth. A cracking day out with three boats from Lynmouth and one out from Ilfracombe. A good days fishing by all with many fish taken. As with all our competitions this was based on catch and release and the "weigh in and monetary dish out" was held at The Rising Sun and many thanks to Tony Vickery for chips and sandwiches which were appreciated by all who attended. First place went to Dan Welch with a cracking Black Bream of 2lb 14oz (95.833%), second place to Craig McLoughlin  with one of several Bull Huss of 12lb 2oz (89.814%) and third place to Paul Sprattley with his Bull Huss of 11lb 12oz (87.037%). Well done to all those who registered returned fish and the trophy goes to Craig. Everyone is looking forward to next years event.

June 2011

Well flaming wasn't quite, but did bring a good quantity of specimen fish throughout the month. Some cracking good Smoothies to some members but a lack of Mullet to others. Dave Brooke was able connect with some decent Bass the best of 10lb (125%) to take first place, second to Guy Spriggs with a Smoothound of 12lb 7oz (124.375%) and third place to Andy Joslin with another Smoothound of 12lb 5oz (123.125%). 1.875% between the top three places. 

May 2011

Mario Manley magnificently took all places this month with his trio of Mullet of 5lb 2 1/2oz (128.906%), 4lb 9oz (114.063%) and of 3lb 12oz (93.75%). Runners up included Kevin Legge and Dave Brooke with a Small Eyed of 9lb and a Wrasse of 4lb 8oz (both 90%).

Lynmouth Boat Compt.

Unfortunately due to severe weather this was cancelled. A new date will be advised. Thank you. 

Minehead Away Day

A few members fished this " away day " to Minehead and Grenleigh. A splattering of small-eyed the best of 9lb to Kevin Legge and dogfish to the remaining anglers.

Putsborough Compt.

Nearly thirty anglers attended this competition with very strong north-westerly winds, which unfortunately would have put off a few on the night. Matt Druce took first place with a Small Eyed of 4lb 3/4oz, second place to Mike Squires with another Small Eyed Ray of 3lb 9oz and third place to A. Smith with a Bass of 2lb 12 7/8oz. All fish were returned on the night immediately after capture.

April 2011

Again this month we have seen a dip in the fishing pattern for this quarter giving poor results throughout. But hey, a couple of cracking fish were registered this month for those entered. Dave Brooke came first with a Bull Huss of 14lb 11oz (146.875%) and Kevin Legge taking second with a Small Eyed of 12lb 5oz (123.125%).

March 2011

The weather was a little to blame for a little dip in attendance and fish again this month, especially earlier on. However, twelve members registered and first place went to Kevin Legge with a Dogfish of 3lb 5oz (110.417%), second and third places to Jason Barrow with a Small Eyed of 10lb 9oz (105.625%) and a Dogfish of 2lb 11oz (89.583%)

February 2011

Fourteen members fished in this months competition with only a few fish being registered, down to north eastern winds for much of the time and February being February. First place to Jon Patten with his Spurdog of 13lb 3oz (164.844%), second to Jason barrow with a Blonde Ray of 13lb 3oz (109.896%) and coming in third with a respectable Blonde of 11lb 12oz (97.917%) Guy Spriggs.

January 2011

This months competition saw a slight drop in competitors due to the poor weather at the start of the month, however we did see an amazing number of specimen fish come to many members with a 121% fish not hitting the mark. Jon Patten took first place with a new Club Record Bull Huss of 15lb 3oz (151.875%), second and third places to Kevin Legge with Blonde Ray of 18lb 2oz (151.041%) and 16lb 1oz (133.854%). Fourth place to Chris Martin with an Eel of 26lb 7oz (132.187%).

December 2010

With this months fishing severely disrupted by snow, ice and bitterly cold winds it was reflected in the results. Although twelve members fished the month only five fish were registered. First place to Wayne Thomas with a boat caught Conger of 32lb (106.667%), second to Dave Brooke with a Whiting of 1lb 8oz (100.000%) and third place to Kevin Legge with a Conger of 18lb 12oz (93.750%).

Xmas Compt. 2010

Several members took part in this overnight event with Kevin Legge taking first and second placing with an Eel of 18lb 12oz (93.75%) and a Dog of 2lb 10 1/2oz (88.542%). Third place went to John Avery with a Thick Lipped mullet of 3lb 4 1/2oz (82.031%) and forth and fifth places went to Dave Brooke  with a Flounder of 1lb 4oz (62.5%) and a Whiting of 14oz (58.333%).

November 2010

This month again dominated by Tope, however not being rated with a 130% Mullet is catching it in the wrong month. First place had to go to Kevin Legge with his dominating Tope of 66lb 8oz (221.666%), second to Dave Brooke with a Tope of 61lb 1oz (203.541%) and third to Jon Patten with his Tope of 43lb 10oz (145.417%). The Thick Lipped Mullet by Mario of 5lb 31/2oz (130.469%) came a fifth place.

October 2010

October saw most members targeting Tope and hence the results dictate likewise. With Tope coming from all areas around the coast and not just previously thought of hot spots. Kevin Legge took first place with a terrific Tope of 40lb (133.333%) and second place went to Jon Patten with an equally fantastic fish of 38lb 14oz (129.582%). Third and forth places went to Paul Widlake with another fine brace of 37lb 5oz (124.375%) and 36lb 12oz (122.500%). November is starting to look equally as good with two cracking Tope starting the month off. 

September 2010

This months competition was cleaned up by Kevin Legge with a sensational Sole of 3lb 15oz (196.875%) and a bonzer  Bass of 9lb 1/2oz (112.891%) and third place to Mario Manley with a memorable Mullet (Thick Lipped) of 4lb 5oz (107.813%). Apologies to Mario as I did put it down initially as an "out of limits" fish.

August 2010

Jon Patten again placing this month with a first place for his super Silver Eel of 2lb 14oz (115.000%) , second and third to John Avery with Thick Lipped Mullet of 4lb 1oz (101.563%) and 4lb (100.000%). Running up forth Nick Phillips with a Thick Lipped Mullet of 3lb 14 1/2oz (97.656%).

July 2010

This months competition dominated by Mullet with many registered and some crackers too. First place to Jon Patten with a Thin Lipped Mullet of 4lb 9oz (130.357%), second to Mario Manley another Thin of 4lb 6oz (125.000%) and third to Jon Patten with a Thin of 4lb (114.286%). Many other specimen Mullet in the reports leader board. 

June 2010

Seventeen members fished throughout this month with a few good specimen fish being registered, particularly Dave Brooke with a Starry Smoothhound of 12lb 8oz (125%) taking first  and forth with a Common of 10lb 5oz (103.125%). Mario Manley also did well taking second and third places with a Thin Lipped Mullet of 3lb 13oz (108.929%) and a Thick Lipped Mullet of 4lb 2 1/2oz (103.906%). A Small Eyed of 9lb 1oz (90.625%) was registered by Kevin Legge. 

Putsborough 2010

A very successful night at Putsborough with thirty eight anglers fishing. A bit blowey earlier in the evening but died away as the tide turned. Many thanks to those who donated prizes including, Sakuma, Ammo, Trim, Braunton News and of course the club for £100. We will get a full report out later but winners are,

May 2010

Fishing has slipped back a little over the last few weeks with some species getting late. However seventeen members fished throughout the month and some quite good specimens were caught. First to Graham Snow with a tidy Thin Lipped Mullet of 3lb 15oz (112.5%), second to John Avery with a Thick Lipped Mullet of 3lb 15 1/2oz (99.219%) and third to Guy Spriggs with a late Smoothhound of 9lb 10oz (96.25%).

Tom Clarke Memorial Boat Match

Quite a successful event where 10 members fished from two boats from Minehead and Lynmouth. Several smaller boats were going to fish but unfortunately due to the fresh NW breeze which got up we lost a couple of the smaller boats and therefore members fishing. Fishing was hard in general, but Jon Patten took top prize with a Small Eyed of 9lb, other fish included many other smaller ray, conger to 20lb, pollock, huss smoothhound and many, many dogfish. The "weigh in" (all fish were returned) was held at The Rising Sun, Lynmouth who laid on plates of delicious food, breaded chicken, sausages and sandwiches. Many thanks to Tony Vickery and The Rising Sun.    

April 2010

Well, well well... April saw one fantastic turn around in the last few days of the competition. Sixteen members fished and saw some awesome specimens registered throughout the month. Clear winners all the way till the end then piped at the post by some late entries. First place went to Adrian Gove with a fine Thick Lipped Mullet of 4lb 11 1/2oz (117.969%), second to Kevin Legge with a thoughtful Thornback of 13lb 3 1/2oz (110.156%), third to Dave Brooke with his desirable Dogfish of     3lb 4 3/4oz (109.896%). Other places worth a mention include Chris Martin with brave Bull Huss of 10lb 15oz (109.375%) and of 10lb 13oz (108.125%), also Dave Brooke with another Huss of 9lb 7oz (94.375%). Brilliant month.

March 2010

This months competition saw a variety of species for the sixteen participating anglers throughout this month. First place to Andy Joslin with a Conger of 25lb 7oz (127.187%), second to Guy Spriggs with a Thornback Ray of 10lb 8oz (87.5%), third place to Stefen Jones with a Dogfish of 2lb 8oz (83.333%) and forth place to John Avery with a Mullet of 3lb 4oz (81.25%). May I remind all members to book fish through John Avery please..

February 2010

With seventeen anglers taking part this month general fishing proved difficult however magic Mullet made many anglers smile around the coast. First place went to Graham Snow with his Mullet of 4lb 7 3/4oz (110.938%), second to Adrian Gove with one of 4lb 1 1/2oz (102.344%) and third to John Avery with a fish of 3lb 7oz (85.938%). Dave Brooke registered a Dogfish of 2lb 8 3/4oz (84.896%) to give him forth place. 

January 2010

What a super start to the new year with 19 members fishing throughout this competition with a cracking Cod taking first place. Many members though have had difficulty in getting out because of the wintry weather we have endured throughout this last month. However Jason Barrow was to take first place with his boat caught Cod of 17lb 14oz (119.167%), second to Ashley Clarke with a smashing Spurdog again from the boat of 11lb 8oz (95.833%) and third place to Dave Brooke with a difficult Dogfish of 2lb 12oz (91.667%). Notable runners up include Wayne Thomas with another boat caught Spurdog of 10lb 8oz (87.5%) and Chris Martin with a Thornback of 12lb 2oz (86.607%)  

December Monthly 2009

Meeting up on January 3rd at The Cricket Club on the first Sunday of the following month which is our new format. 18 members fished throughout the month and some good Dogs were recorded by Dave Brooke and others, but dominating the month were Thick Lipped Mullet to John Avery who took all placings with fish of 4lb 12oz (118.75%), 4lb 11oz (117.188%) and 4lb 3 1/2oz (105.469%). Other Mullet just below specimen size were also caught. 

Xmas Competition

John Avery's Mullet of 4lb 11oz took first place with Kevin Legge runner up with a Dogfish of 2lb 3 1/2oz.

November Monthly 2009

With 14 members registered fishing this month has badly been effected by the weather. However Jon Patten was able to get out between the storms to register first and second places with a Rockling of 2lb 6 3/4oz (138.393%) and a Tope of 37lb (123.333%). 

October Monthly 2009

16 members fished throughout this month with some cracking fish registered this month. First to Kevin Legge with his Sole of 3lb 13oz (190.625%), second to Guy Spriggs with a tremendous shore caught Tope of 44lb (146.66%), third place to John Avery with a magic Mullet of 4lb 11 1/2oz (117.969%). All fish excellent specimens even fourth place to Jon Patten with another Tope of 30lb 3oz (100.625%).  

September Monthly 2009

Specimens are getting bigger and better....15 members registered for this months competition and some cracking specimens came in and were returned. First place went to Rick Blackmore with an exceptional Smoothhound of 16lb (177.77%), second place to Kevin Legge with a sizzling Sole of 2lb 15oz (146.825%) and third place to Jon Patten with another cracking Sole of 2lb 10oz (131.25%). Many other specimen fish were registered including a Smoothhound of 9lb 1oz (100.694%), a Pouting of 1lb 15oz (129.167%), other Soles of 2lb 3oz (109.375%) and 2lb 2oz (106.25%).

September Lyn Fish

13 members fished this event with a majority putting their faith on the water, but although caught good numbers of different species no fish were brought to the scales from boats. However, well done to Paul Spratley and John Avery with good specimen Mullet of 4lb 5oz (107.813%) taking first place and second to John with 3lb 10oz. Tony Vickery at The Rising Sun provided a delicious platter of sandwiches and beef and yorkshire pudding. (Link)

August Monthly 2009

16 members booked in throughout the month and some good specimens were registered. Guy Spriggs took first place with a fantastic Tope of 42lb 2oz (140.417%), second to Jon Patten with another Tope of 39lb (130%) and third to Mario Manley with a Thin Lipped Mullet of 4lb 5 1/2oz (124.107%).  Jon Patten also landed another Tope of 27lb (90%) during the month. Other fish to note were Bass of 9lb 5oz and 8lb 4oz by Chris Martin and Kevin Legge, a Smoothhound of 10lb 4oz by Rick Blackmore and another Thin by Mario of 3lb 10oz.

July Monthly 2009

Another good turnout for this month with many fine specimen fish coming in throughout the month. Many Mullet trips cancelled due to river levels however Graham Snow was able to land a Thin Lipped Mullet of 3lb 14oz (110.714%) to bring him just outside the placings. However Chris Martin fished well this month with a cracking brace of Common and Starry Smoothhound of 10lb 12oz (119.444%) and 10lb 10 1/2oz (118.403%) to take the top two places. Third place we to Jon Patten with a Smoothhound of 10lb (111.111%). A couple of boat caught Tope of 38lb 8oz (96.25%) and 37lb 8oz (93.75%) came to Ashley Clarke and Donald Kyte. James Gubb-Fradgley from Lynmouth also caught a Tadpole Fish of 1lb 1oz (103.03%) from the boat. Percentage based on 75% of British Record  of 1lb 6oz equals 100% specimen rating of 1lb 1/2oz. ie 75% of 22 ounces are 16.5 ounces.

June Monthly

Nice to see Mullet starting to come to the scales at better percentage ratings and Ray are still coming in albeit smaller quantities. Graham Snow took first with a Thick Lipped of 4lb 7oz (110.938%), second to John Avery with a Small Eyed of 9lb 7oz (104.861%) and third to Chris Martin with another Small Eyed of 9lb 3oz (102.083%) 

May Monthly

It was inevitably that Kevin's Tope would take some beating and take first place in the monthly competition for May. Twelve members fished the month with his Tope of 45lb 13oz ( 152.708%) and second place went to Rick Blackmore who has had some very good Ray throughout the month if you have a look at our reports page, anyway with a Small Eyed Ray of 12lb 5oz (136.806%) and also took third place with a Ray of 10lb 4oz (120.833%)

Putsborough Open 2009

Well what a night....40 anglers fished a perfect night with perfect conditions and with a perfect tide and a good range of species came to the scales with our winning fish not coming to the scales..!!!! If you know what I mean. Second place went to Keith Owen with a Conger of 14lb 15 1/2oz, third to Nathan Clements with his Dogfish of 1lb 12 1/2oz, fourth to Andy Joslin with a Small Eyed Ray of  5lb 4 1/2oz, fifth to Mario Manley with a Dogfish of 1lb 11 1/2oz, sixth to Stefan Jones with an Eel of 11lb 1 1/2oz and best brace to Keith Owen with his Eel and a Dogfish of 1lb 10 1/2oz. I'll give you all the percentage figures and prizes when I get my sheet back. Ooohhh and the winner was Kevin Legge with a Tope of 45lb 13oz.

April Monthly 2009

Rick Blackmore kept our boat anglers at bay on the day with a brilliant Small Eyed of 10lb 14oz (120.833%) to take first place. Second went to Mario Manley with a Small Eyed of 10lb 3oz (113.194%) and third to Jason Barrow with a cracking Bull Huss of 10lb 4oz. 

April Boat Trip

On Sunday April 26th CMSAC members enjoyed an action packed trip on Steve Webber's boat "Osprey" out of Minehead. Over 50 ray were landed including thornback, small eyed, blonde and spotted. Best specimen of the day was a small eyed of 11lb 3oz to Wayne Thomas and top blonde a fish of 13lb to Jason Barrow who also managed to land all four ray species in the day. A solitary smoothound was also landed along with the inevitable doggies. 

March Monthly 2009

Another cracking month with many, many specimen fish caught by members from both shore and boat. Boat caught Spurdog are still dominating with a few Mullet showing along with a few Bull Huss. Have a look at our specimen report page. So this months results are Guy Spriggs with a boat caught Spurdog of 14lb 2oz (141.25%) taking first place, second to Chris Martin with another Spurdog of 13lb 8oz (135%) and third to Colin Joy with a Spurdog of 12lb 12oz (127.5%). 

February Monthly

This month long competition saw the "weigh in" on the last Sunday at the Braunton Cricket Club. A really good turn out for the month with 17 members taking part. Some cracking good Spurdog and Huss were returned throughout the month. Rick Blackmore took first place with a Bull Huss of 12lb 11oz (126.875%) and second and third places went to Ashley Clarke with boat caught Spurdog of 12lb 2oz (121.25%) and 11lb 14oz (118.75%).

February Rover 2009

With only a few members fishing this weekend rover and no fish brought to the scales a roll over will go to next months rover.

January Monthly

Our new format monthly competition is working well with all fish now weigh and release throughout the month with the "weigh in" on the last Sunday. This month saw Kevin Legge take first with a new club record Spurdog of 11lb 4oz, second to Derek Ferrett with a good Bull Huss of 11lb 1/2oz and third to John Avery with another Bull Huss of 10lb 5 1/2oz. A reminder to members to book in for the following competition with seven days of the last weigh in.

January Rover 2009

Fished over a rough weekend but first place went to Derek Ferrett with a Dogfish of 2lb 6oz and second place to John Avery with a Bull Huss of 7lb 8 1/2oz. These fish are weighed, witnessed and returned according to our new Club procedure.

December Festive Fish 2008

The new Club year started with a cracking Eel from Derek Ferrett with a fish of 32lb 12oz, well over 163%, and second and third places went to Kevin Legge with Dogfish of 2lb 12oz and 2lb 8oz. All monies were paid out following roll overs from previous competitions.
